A weapons and drug detection dog is an invaluable resource for a police department or school. Many smaller police departments and schools can not afford one. It costs over $20,000 for a purebred, purpose-bred detection dog. These dogs are then placed for free within police departments and schools across the country.

The K9 detection dog teams are trained by Sector K9 in Midlothian, TX. Through a rigorous selection process, Sector K9 works with various animal shelters across the country to select dogs who have the willingness and focus to be a police detection K9. Our donors sponsor the 4-8 week training and care for the dogs while they and their police officer partners are expertly trained at Sector K9. The dogs learn to detect narcotics, opiates, and guns, with some learning special skills in tracking. This program saves thousands of taxpayer dollars and provides a positive solution to some of our country’s toughest problems and helps to build more connected communities.

By completing this application, you are requesting a police K9. Each grant applicant will be considered by Sector K9. This process does not guarantee a police K9 will be placed with your department. Sector K9 make the selection process easy and effective to ensure the dog is placed with a department that fully understands and accepts what it takes to have an effective K9 team. Should you be selected to receive a K9, you must take a handler’s course. Please do not submit this application until you have approval from your administration.
